Women's soccer starts homestand with win

Kempf and Ellsperman have two goals each

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team started a two-game homestand with a 4-0 victory over the University of Illinois at Springfield Friday evening at Strassweg Field. USI, which has won two-straight and has not lost in its last four, raised its record to 5-3-2 overall and 4-1-1 in the GLVC, while UIS falls to 2-6-0, 0-6-0 GLVC.

The Screaming Eagles were led by sophomore forward Meagan Kempf and freshman forward Susan Ellsperman, who had two goals apiece in the victory. Kempf started the scoring in the first half with her second goal of the season off a pass from senior midfielder Katie Teagarden at 20:42.

Ellsperman would make the score 2-0 at 55:12 of the second half when she recorded her fifth of the season off a pass from freshman defender Jessica Gates. Kempf responded with her second of the game and third of the season just 19 seconds later at 55:31 off a cross from Ellsperman.

The team leader with six goals this season, Ellsperman finished the scoring at 73:51 by posting an unassisted goal on a restart for the 4-0 final.

USI finishes the short homestand Sunday when they host Quincy University for a noon contest. The Hawks rose to 6-3-0 overall and 4-1-1 in the GLVC after posting a 2-0 road win at the University of Missouri-St. Louis tonight.
