Women's soccer blanks SJC

Ellsperman scores twice and assists on two more

BOX SCORE: Southern Indiana 4, Saint Joseph's 0 

EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- University of Southern Indiana freshman forward Susan Ellsperman scored two goals and assisted on two more as the Screaming Eagles blanked Saint Joseph's College, 4-0, Sunday afternoon at Strassweg Field. USI raises its record back to the .500 mark at 3-3-0 overall and 2-2-0 in the GLVC, while SJC fall to 0-5-0, 0-3-0 GLVC.

Ellsperman scored the game-winner and all of the goals the Eagles would need near the end of the first half off a pass from sophomore forward Meagan Kempf at 43:28. She would help USI to a 2-0 lead with nine second before halftime by knocking a corner kick to sophomore back Samantha Smith, who headed the ball in for her first goal of the season.

The Eagles put the game out of reach in the first five minutes of the second half when Ellsperman scored her second of the game and her third of the season at 50:34. The goal was unassisted in a scramble in front of the SJC goal.

USI's final goal of the game came off the foot of sophomore forward Nancy Newcomer. She scored her third goal of the season off a crossing pass from Ellsperman at 54:31.

The final match of USI's five game homestand is Wednesday when the Eagles host the University of North Alabama. USI goes on the road in the GLVC next week when it travels to University of Wisconsin-Parkside September 18 and Lewis University September 20.
