EVANSVILLE, Ind. – University of Southern Indiana junior midfielder Michael Simcock scored a pair of goals to lead the Screaming Eagles to a 4-1 win over Saint Joseph's College Sunday afternoon at Strassweg Field . USI raises its record to the .500 mark for the first time this season at 2-2-0 overall and goes to 2-1-0 in the GLVC, while SJC falls to 3-2-1, 1-1-1 GLVC.
Simcock started the scoring for the Eagles at the 10:27 mark of the first half. He was assisted on the play by junior forward Simon Rawnsley and freshman forward Jeff McClure, who worked the ball out of pack of players and to an open spot on the left of the SJC goal.
Three minutes later SJC evened the score at 1-1 and the scoreboard would remain unchanged until after halftime.
The Eagles got the lead back for good when Simcock scored his second goal of the season and the game on a penalty kick at 56:37 of the second half to give USI a 2-1 advantage. USI was awarded the kick when McClure was fouled inside the penalty area.
McClure and freshman forward Rush Dugger sealed the victory for the Eagles with unassisted goals at 68:31 and 76:08, respectively, to make the score, 4-1. McClure stole the ball in the box for his third goal of the season, while Dugger beat two defenders to post his second of the season.
The next action for the Eagles will be on the road when they travel to the University of Wisconsin-Parkside on September 18 and Lewis University on September 20 for GLVC matches. USI returns home to play the University of Illinois-Springfield on September 25 to start a two-match homestand.
