EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team scored four goals in 20 minutes to post a 4-2 come-from-behind victory over the University Indianapolis Friday evening at Strassweg Field. The win was USI's first of the season and raises its record to 1-2-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the GLVC, while UIndy falls to 2-1-2 overall, 0-1-1 GLVC.
The Greyhounds jumped out to a commanding 2-0 lead in the first 45 minutes with freshman forward Bobby Adkins scoring at 27:49 and 41:47. The score would remain that way until the 68:46 mark when the Screaming Eagles' offense exploded onto the scoreboard.
USI freshman defender Daniel Heltsley, who was playing in his first game as an Eagle, scored his first collegiate goal to cut the Greyhound lead in half. Heltsley headed in a corner kick from junior midfielder Justin Fox to make the score, 2-1.
The Eagles equaled the score at 2-2 just over two minutes later when freshman forward Jeff McClure scored his second goal of the season on Fox's second assist of the night at 70:56.
The final ten minutes of the match was the Simon Rawnsley show as the junior forward scored the game-winner on a breakaway off a pass from junior midfielder Michael Simcock. The goal was Rawnsley's first of the season.
Rawnsley sealed the victory four minutes later with his second tally of the season off a pass from Fox, who had three assists on the night. Simcock started the final scoring sequence and was awarded his second assist of the evening.
USI resumes GLVC action Sunday at 2:30 p.m. when it completes a three-match homestand by hosting Saint Joseph's College at Strassweg Field. The Pumas comes to Evansville with a 3-1-1 overall mark, 1-0-1 in the GLVC, after tying the University of Missouri-St. Louis, 1-1, in double overtime tonight.
