BIG RAPIDS, Mich.—The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team stormed past Northwood University 25-17, 25-16, 27-25 Friday evening at the Ferris State University Bulldog Classic.
USI (2-0) held the Timberwolves (0-2) to negative attacking clips in the first two sets to build a 2-0 lead in the match. The Screaming Eagles fought off a set-point in the third frame to complete the sweep of the 2008 NCAA II Tournament participant.
Junior outside hitter Brittani Oliver led the Eagles with eight kills, while senior middle blocker Ashley Henricks had five kills, three blocks, and a .400 attacking percentage.
The Eagles also got a combined 10 kills from senior right side hitter Kathi Hindman and sophomore middle blocker Danielle LaGrange. Hindman finished with a .364 attacking clip.
Senior setter Melanie Pund finished with 26 assists, while sophomore libero Krista Coccaro matched Pund's team-high 10 digs.
USI returns to action Saturday when it takes on West Virginia State University at 8:30 a.m. (CDT) and NCAA II Midwest Region opponent Saginaw Valley State University at 1:30 p.m.
