KISSIMMEE, Fla.—The University of Southern Indiana softball team ended its 12-game stay at the Division II Rebel Spring Games on a down note Saturday as it fell to Southwest Minnesota State University, 4-3, and to Midwest Region foe Wayne State University, 8-0.

Sophomore first baseman Brittany DeWeese (Evansville, Indiana) had an RBI-single in the top of the first inning to get the Screaming Eagles out to a 1-0 lead against Southwest Minnesota State (5-7).

After taking advantage of an error to take a 2-1 edge in the fourth frame, USI watched the Mustangs answer with a three spot in the bottom of the fourth set to take a 4-2 lead. Sophomore utility player Dawn McClellan (Valparaiso, Indiana) cut into the Eagles' two-run deficit with an RBI-single in the next inning, but the Eagles could muster just one base runner in the final two innings as they lost their 10th one-run game of the season.

Junior pitcher Kambria Current (Indianapolis, Indiana) took the loss for the Eagles after giving up four runs off three hits in 3.2 innings of work. Current (1-1), who allowed just two earned runs, also issued four walks while striking out two batters.

Nothing seemed to go right for the Eagles (7-17) in their bout with Wayne State (5-3). The Warriors opened the game with a home run and limited USI to just one hit as they handed the Eagles their second straight loss.

Wayne State broke the game wide open in the top of the fourth inning when it exploded for five runs to take a comfortable 6-0 advantage. The Warriors added runs in the sixth and seventh innings to complete the 8-0 shutout.

Senior pitcher Stephanie Schneider (Birdseye, Indiana) was charged with the setback after giving up five runs off six hits in 3.0 innings of work. She falls to 3-8 with the decision.

After 24 games, the Eagles finally get the opportunity to open their home schedule Wednesday when they face Brescia University in a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. at the USI Softball Field.
