EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team is playing for the last remaining spot in next weekend's GLVC Tournament when it visits Rockhurst University for its regular-season finale Saturday at 1 p.m. in Kansas City, Missouri. Play-by-play of the game can be heard on WSPR 90.7 FM, WSWI 820 AM, and via the internet at www.820theedge.com.
A victory over Rockhurst Saturday would give the Screaming Eagles the third seed in the GLVC West Division and send them into the conference's post-season tournament for the first time since 2007. The Eagles also would clinch the third seed in the GLVC West Division and a conference tournament berth if the University of Missouri-St. Louis defeats Missouri University of Science and Technology Saturday evening in Rolla, Missouri.
USI (14-12, 6-10 GLVC) is coming off a tough 75-69 setback to Drury University Wednesday night in Springfield, Missouri. The Eagles led by as many as 10 points in the opening period; then fought back from a 13-point second-half deficit to forge a four-point lead with three minutes to play in the game. Drury, however, took advantage of four USI turnovers in the final two minutes to go on a 9-0 run and end the Eagles' upset bid.
Rockhurst (10-18, 3-13 GLVC) snapped a seven-game losing streak with its 78-69 non-conference victory over the University of Illinois-Springfield Tuesday night. The Hawks last victory prior to their seven-game slide was a 77-67 win over USI at the Physical Activities Center last month.
Despite the setback, the Eagles lead the all-time series with Rockhurst, 6-2, and are 5-2 against Rockhurst since 2000.
