QUINCY, Ill. – The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team could not stop a final run by 19th-ranked Quincy University and lost 79-63 Saturday afternoon in Quincy, Illinois. USI falls to 13-10 overall and 5-8 in the GLVC, while Quincy goes to 21-3, 13-1 GLVC.

The Screaming Eagles jumped out to an early 11-0 lead and posted a 20-10 advantage by the halfway mark of the first half. USI sophomore guard Lauren Meneghetti (Munster, Indiana) scored all of her 10 points opening 10 minutes to lead the initial offensive charge by the Eagles.

The Hawks rebounded with an 18-7 run to takes their first lead of the game 28-27 with 1:10 remaining in the first half. The Eagles retook the lead at the intermission, 29-28, with a pair of free throws by freshman guard Rinesha Soaper (Henderson, Kentucky).

USI came out of the locker room to increase its lead to, 34-30, but Quincy went on an 18-8 run to take control, 48-38, with 11:57 left to play. The Eagles did not quit, responding with a 14-4 run of their own to tie the game, 52-52, with sophomore guard Amie Newhart (Mulberry, Indiana) leading the rally with eight of her team-high 17 points.

After USI had regained the advantage 55-54 with 8:01 to play, the Hawks took control of the game with a little help of Eagles. The Hawks got back out in front by six points, 61-55, on a three-point field goal, followed by four free throws as result of a foul and technical foul on USI sophomore forward Courtney Perry (Crown Point, Indiana).

Following the technical, the Hawks flew away from the Eagles with the help of five turnovers and five personal fouls in the final seven minutes. Quincy went on to extend the lead to the 16-point, 79-63 final. USI would finish the game with 28 turnovers.

Individually, Newhart and Meneghetti were joined in double-figure scoring by senior center Brittany Neuman (Huntingburg, Indiana), who had her fifth double-double of the season with 16 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.

The Eagles return to action in the GLVC Thursday when they travel to the University of Missouri-St. Louis for a 5:15 p.m. contest. USI finishes next week at the Physical Activities Center when it hosts Missouri University of Science and Technology for Senior Day and "Pack the PAC in Pink". The Eagles will be wearing pink uniforms for its "Pink Zone" game in an effort to raise awareness for breast cancer
