EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team fell to the No. 12 University of Indianapolis Greyhounds 25-14, 25-14, 25-20 Friday night at the Physical Activities Center.
USI (10-9, 4-3 GLVC) struggled to get anything going offensively in the first and second sets as it hit .067 and .024, respectively. The Greyhounds (21-1, 6-1 GLVC) used runs of 9-2 and 10-2 in the first and second games, respectively, and attacked clips of .314 and .306 as they grabbed a 2-0 lead in the match.
In the third set, the Eagles jumped out to a 7-4 lead, but another Indianapolis surge helped the visiting Greyhounds build a 17-12 advantage. Following a timeout, the Eagles scored four straight times to close the deficit to a single point, but Indianapolis answered USI's push with a 5-0 spurt to put the set out of reach.
USI's best offensive performance came in the final set as it attacked at a .306 clip. The Greyhounds, however, hit a blistering .429 in the third stanza as they closed out the sweep and extended their winning streak to seven straight.
Sophomore Danielle LaGrange led the Eagles with 11 kills and a .321 attacking percentage, while freshman setter Ashley King came off the bench to record 19 assists in just two sets. Senior outside hitter Courtney Bealor had a team-high 10 digs in the loss.
USI finishes its short two-match homestand Saturday when it hosts Saint Joseph's College at 3 p.m. at the PAC.
