EVANSVILLE, Ind.—Freshman forward Susan Ellsperman scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season in the first period to give the University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team all the offense it would need Friday night as the Screaming Eagles defeated Missouri University of Science and Technology, 1-0, at the Goebel Soccer Complex.
Following a Missouri S&T foul in the 42nd minute of the contest, Ellsperman's direct kick from 25 yards out found the back of the net to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead heading into the half.
Missouri S&T (4-6-1, 4-5-0 GLVC) had several opportunities to tie the match in the second period, but sophomore goalkeeper Stephanie Bodamer made four of her match-high five saves in the final 45 minutes to preserve the Eagles' fifth shutout of the season.
USI (6-6-2, 5-4-1 GLVC), which faced a 16-11 deficit in shots, held a slight 6-5 edge in shots on goal.
The Eagles return to action Sunday when they host Maryville University for Senior Day at Strassweg Field. USI will honor its six seniors prior to the noon kickoff.
