EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team returns to the friendly surroundings of Strassweg Field for the final homestand of 2009, starting Friday against Missouri University of Science and Technology at 7:30 p.m. The Screaming Eagles, who are 3-2-0 at home this year, finish the homestand Sunday versus Maryville University for Senior Day at 2:30 p.m.
Prior to the USI-Maryville match on Sunday, the Eagles will honor its four seniors – Justin Brotherton, Paul Hutchens, Will Reid, and Brad Cadden.
USI (3-7-1, 3-6-0 GLVC) is in the midst of a four-match winless streak after going 0-2-1 last week. The Eagles are still in the hunt for a spot in the eight-team GLVC Tournament as they are two games back of the final slot in the standings.
USI freshman forward Jeff McClure continues to lead the Eagles in scoring with 11 points on five goals and one assist. He is followed by junior forward Simon Rawnsley and junior midfielder Michael Simcock, who are tied with seven points on two goals and three assists each.
The Miners of Missouri S&T (4-4-1, 4-3-1 GLVC) have won two in a row after breaking a three-match losing streak last Friday. USI leads the all-time series with Missouri S&T, 10-8-2, and the teams are deadlocked in the last three matches, 1-1-1. The Miners won last year's meeting, 1-0, in Rolla, Missouri.
The Saints of Maryville (0-10-1, 0-7-1 GLVC) are still winless in their first season at the NCAA Division II level. Maryville is making their second appearance at Strassweg Field in as many seasons after losing the first meeting to USI last fall, 3-0.
