Volleyball completes weekend sweep with shutout

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team completed a sweep of its final homestand in 2009 with a 3-0 shutout of Missouri University of Science and Technology Saturday afternoon at the Physical Activities Center. USI, which has won three straight matches, raises its record to 15-13 overall and 7-5 in the GLVC, while Missouri S&T falls to 10-24, 5-7 GLVC.

In a quick 70 minute match, the Screaming Eagles escape the first set with a 26-24 win before dominating the second set 25-10 to take control of the match. USI closed out the match with a 25-19 victory in the third set to complete the shuout.

USI was led sophomore middle blocker Danielle LaGrange, who had a team-best 11 kills, and junior outside hitter Brittani Oliver, who had nine. Senior setter Melanie Pund was credited with an assist in 23 of USI's 34 team kills.

The Eagles had six total team blocks at the net, led by senior middle blocker Ashley Henricks and senior outside hitter Courtney Bealor with three blocks each. Oliver also had a pair of blocks, one a solo.
Prior to the match, USI honored its five seniors –Bealor, Henricks, Pund, Kathi Hindman, and Jackie Johnson.

The Eagles finish the 2009 regular season campaign on the road next weekend when they travel to the University of Illinois-Springfield on November 6 and Quincy University on November 7.
