LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team finished the 2009 regular season with a 1-1 double-overtime tie at Bellarmine University Sunday afternoon in Louisville, Kentucky. USI completes the regular season campaign with a 9-7-3 overall record and in seventh place in the GLVC with a 7-5-2 overall record, while Bellarmine goes to 12-2-1, 10-2-1 GLVC.
The Knights took the early lead with a first half goal at 31:17 and would maintain that lead through the intermission.
The Screaming Eagles tied the game 1-1 at 57:28 of the second half when sophomore defender Lavonia Lewis scored her first goal of the season off a pass from senior forward Katie Teagarden. The team would end regulation tied.
Bellarmine controlled the overtime periods, out shooting USI, 4-0, with both team recording a corner kick. USI sophomore goalkeeper Stephanie Bodamer picked up her third tie of the season, allowing only one goal while facing 14 shots.
The Eagles return to action November 1 at Quincy University for the first round of the GLVC Tournament. USI is appearing in the GLVC Tournament for the first time since 2005 and is the seventh seed in the tournament. Quincy earned the second seed in the tournament today with an 8-0 win over the University of Illinois at Springfield. Game time on November 1 is still to be announced.
