LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Southern Indiana junior forward Simon Rawnsley scored the game-winning goal with 31 seconds to play in helping the Screaming Eagles defeat Bellarmine University, 3-2, Sunday afternoon in Louisville, Kentucky. USI finishes the year 6-10-1overall and 5-9-0 in the GLVC, while Bellarmine falls to 9-5-1, 7-5-0 GLVC.
Rawnsley scored the game-winner off a pass from freshman forward Jeff McClure. The goal was Rawnsley's fourth of the season and his third game-winning goal of the campaign.
USI controlled match for the first 85 minutes, building a 2-0 lead. The Eagles took a 1-0 lead in the first half on the second goal of the year by freshman defender Nolan Harvath. The goal was unassisted at 9:35.
Eagles' junior midfielder Michael Simcock extended the margin to 2-0 with his third goal of the year and was assisted on the play by Rawnsley. Rawnsley also concluded the year with a team-high five assists.
Bellarmine gave USI a scare in the final five minutes by scoring a pair of goals within 30 seconds. Knight midfielder Ross Hopkins scored Bellarmine's first goal at 84:23 and converted a penalty kick at 84:46 to tie game 2-2.
The Eagles conclude the year with three straight victories and on an offensive run of 10 goals in the wins.
