Women's soccer holds on to defeat KWC UPDATED

Eagles qualify for the GLVC Tournament for the first time since 2005

OWENSBORO, Ky. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team held on to defeat Kentucky Wesleyan College, 2-1, Friday afternoon in Owensboro, Kentucky. USI goes to 9-7-2 overall and 7-5-1 in the GLVC, while KWC falls to 7-10-1 overall, 4-10-0 GLVC.

The Screaming Eagles got on the board in the opening minutes of the match and took a 1-0 lead at 1:59. Senior forward Katie Teagarden scored her third goal of the season off a cross from senior midfielder Rachel Caksackkar.

After the Panthers came back to tie the game at 1-1, senior midfielder Kara Georgeff gave the Eagles back the lead with her third goal of the season. Georgeff headed in the go-ahead goal off a corner kick from freshman forward Susan Ellsperman.

USI goalkeeper Stephanie Bodamer made the second goal stand up and raised her record to 8-7-1. Bodamer made six saves and allowed just one of the 14 shots into the back of the net.

The victory and Friday's loss by Missouri University of Science and Technology also clinched a spot in the GLVC Tournament for the Eagles. USI's opponent is still to be determined for the tournament that begins November 1.

The Eagles finish the regular season Sunday at Bellarmine University. The Knights enter tonight's action at home against the University of Missouri-St. Louis with a record of 11-2-0 overall and 9-2-0 in the GLVC.
