Women's soccer wins second straight

BOX SCORE: USI 2, Urbana 0

URBANA, Ohio – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team scored a pair of first half goals and shutout Urbana University on the road, 2-0, Sunday afternoon. USI, which has won two in a row and three of the last four, raise its record to 8-7-2 overall, while Urbana falls to 4-6-2.

The Screaming Eagles got on the scoreboard early when senior forward Rachel Cakaskkar recorded her first goal of the season and made the score 1-0 at 6:57. She was assisted on the play by sophomore forward Meagan Kempf, who credited with her team-best sixth assist of the season.

Kempf sealed the victory just under seven minutes later when she made the score 2-0 on her fourth of the season. Caksakkar and freshman defender Jessica Gates posted assists on the play as Kempf beat the Urbana goalkeeper.

USI sophomore goalkeeper Chelsea Connell made those two goals stand up, recording her first win and shutout of the season. Connell made seven saves and faced 12 shots to preserve the victory.

The Eagles, who are 2-0 on this four-match road trip, will try to nail down a spot in the GLVC Tournament next weekend when they finish the regular season with a pair matches in Kentucky. USI travels to Owensboro, Kentucky, Friday for a 2:30 p.m. contest against Kentucky Wesleyan College and concludes the regular season October 25 in Louisville, Kentucky, for an 11 a.m. game versus Bellarmine University.
