MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Southern Indiana junior forward Simon Rawnsley scored the game-winning goal with 2:48 left in the first “sudden victory” overtime to give the Screaming Eagles a 4-3 win at Christian Brothers University Sunday afternoon in Memphis, Tennesse. The win broke USI's seven-match winless streak and raised the Eagles overall record to 4-10-1, while CBU falls to 4-8-1.
Rawnsley gave USI the overtime win off a pass from freshman forward Jeff McClure. The goal was Rawnsley's third of the season, while the assist was McClure's second.
USI sophomore forward Danny Pratte gave the Eagles a chance to win the match in overtime when he tied the score, 3-3, with :30 seconds remaining. The goal was unassisted and Pratte's second of the year.
First half of the match was all USI as the Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first 45 minutes. USI took a 1-0 lead with 11:03 left in the opening half on a penalty kick by McClure and upped the lead to 2-0 when the Eagles received an own goal by the Buccaneers.
The second half was mostly Buccaneers as they scored three unanswered goals until Pratte evened the score at three and sent the match into overtime.
The Eagles return to GLVC action next week when they finish the 2009 regular season with an 11 a.m. match Friday at Kentucky Wesleyan College and a 1:30 p.m. contest October 25 at Bellarmine University.
