The Eagles raise their record back to the .500 mark at 7-7-2 overall and 6-5-1 GLVC, while the Tritons fall to 3-8-1, 3-7-1 GLVC.

Gates recorded the game's only goal in the first half at 25:38 on a direct kick from 30 yards. The shot slide through a mud-covered goal area, beneath UMSL goalkeeper Hanna Sayre.

USI sophomore goalkeeper Stephanie Bodamer posted her sixth shutout of the season as she and the Eagles' defense stopped nine Triton shots. USI out shot UMSL overall, 13-9, but the Tritons had the advantage in corner kicks, 5-2.

The victory broke USI's three match losing streak to UMSL and raised the Eagles to seventh in the GLVC standings, a half-game ahead of Rockhurst University.

The Eagles continue the four-match road trip Sunday in Urbana, Ohio, when they play the Blue Knights of Urbana University at noon. The Blue Knight are 4-5-2 overall this season.
