Women's soccer plays in and out of GLVC this week

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team starts a four-game road-swing to conclude the 2009 regular season schedule, beginning at the University of Missouri-St. Louis Friday at 5 p.m. USI finishes the first half of the road swing Sunday outside the GLVC when it travels to Urbana University in Ohio for a noon contest.

The Screaming Eagles (5-6-1, 5-5-1 GLVC) start the week tied for eighth in the GLVC and in the hunt for one of the eight spots in the conference tournament. USI is currently tied with Missouri University of Science and Technology for the final spot, while trailing seventh-place Rockhurst University by a half game and sixth-place University of Wisconsin-Parkside by a game-and-a-half.

After defeating Missouri S&T on Friday night, 1-0, the Eagles missed a chance to take a firm hold on the eighth slot with a 4-0 loss to Maryville University.

The Tritons of UMSL (2-7-1, 2-6-1 GLVC) began play this week by breaking a four-match winless-streak by defeating Maryville on Tuesday, 3-1. The UMSL win also knocked the Saints a half-game behind the Eagles in the league standings.

UMSL leads the all-time series with USI, 9-5-0, and has won the last three meetings with the Eagles.

The Blue Knights of Urbana (4-5-2) enter Sunday's action with wins in three of their last four matches. Urbana also is in its first season of play in the NCAA Division II.

USI leads the all-time series with Urbana, 1-0, after winning the inaugural meeting, 4-0, last year at Strassweg Field.
