EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team finished the 2009 home schedule by being shut out by Maryville University, 3-0, Sunday afternoon at Strassweg Field. USI, which finishes the home schedule 3-4-0, falls to 3-9-1 overall and 3-8-0 in the GLVC, while Maryville goes to 1-11-1 overall, 1-8-1 GLVC, after posting its first win.
The Saints got on the scoreboard early with a goal at 2:23 and built a 2-0 lead by the intermission with a tally at 18:12. Maryville would seal the victory with a goal at 77:34 of the second half for the 3-0 final.
Overall, the Screaming Eagles outshot the Saints, 23-12, and hit the post and crossbar three times. USI also had the advantage in corner kicks, 6-1.
The Eagles will finish up the 2009 schedule on the road, beginning Friday at the University of Missouri-St. Louis for a 7:30 p.m. match. USI concludes the first half of the final road swing October 18 with a non-conference match in Memphis, Tennessee, against Christian Brothers University.
