Women's soccer faces tough road trip

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team returns to the road for a tough GLVC road swing this weekend when it travels to Rockhurst University Friday and Drury University Sunday. Kick-off at Rockhurst is scheduled for 5 p.m., while the match at Drury is slated for a noon start.

The Screaming Eagles (5-4-2, 4-2-1 GLVC) are coming off a 1-1 homestand after defeating the University of Illinois at Springfield, 4-0, and losing to Quincy University, 2-0. USI freshman forward Susan Ellsperman led the Eagles in the win over UIS with a pair of goals and an assist.

For the season, Ellsperman leads the Eagles with 15 points on six goals and three assists. Sophomore forward Meagan Kempf, who had the other two goals in the win over UIS, follows Ellsperman with 10 points on three goals and four assists.

The Hawks of Rockhurst (4-3-1, 3-2-1 GLVC), who play a non-conference match against Washburn University before hosting the Eagles, start the week a half-game behind USI in the GLVC standings. Rockhurst has won two of its last three matches, including a 3-3 double-overtime tie versus the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

The Hawks lead the all-time series with Eagles, 5-0-0, after defeating USI 2-1 last year at Strassweg Field.

The Panthers of Drury (8-2-0, 5-1-1 GLVC) begin the week in a five-way tie for first in the GLVC. Drury, who hosts UMSL on Friday prior to hosting the Eagles, has won eight of their last nine matches after starting the season with a loss.

USI is 0-4-0 all-time against Drury, including a 2-0 loss in Springfield, Missouri, last year.
