EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana baseball team took both ends of a doubleheader on Sunday and completed a series sweep of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Sunday afternoon at the USI Baseball Field. USI won the opener on Sunday, 12-2, and came from behind in the nightcap to win, 6-5.

The Screaming Eagles raise their record to 10-7 overall and 3-0 in the GLVC, while UW-Parkside falls to 0-7 overall, 0-3 GLVC.

In the opening game win, USI junior second baseman Josh Huebner (Evansville, Indiana) and junior third baseman Alex Thieroff (Greenfield, Indiana) led the Eagles offensively. Huebner was two-for-five with a pair of doubles, two runs scored, and three RBIs, while Thieroff was three-for-four with a double, and three RBIs.

USI junior designated hitter Kevin O'Hair (Scottsdale, Arizona) also pounded out three hits in the win, going three-for-four with a double and two runs scored.

On the mound, senior right-hander Jeremy Kehrt (Plainfield, Indiana) went six innings to record his team-best third win of the year. Kehrt (3-1) allowed six hits and two runs, while striking out five batters. USI senior right-hander Aaron Schmitt (Evansville, Indiana) pitched a perfect seventh to finish the game for the Eagles.

In the nightcap, USI sophomore right-hander Casey Geiger (Albion, Indiana) stopped the UW-Parkside offensive attack and allowed USI to come-from-behind for the win.

After the Rangers jumped out to a 5-0 lead, Geiger (2-1) gave the Eagle offense a chance to come back by pitching five scoreless innings. The sophomore reliever baffled the Ranger hitters, allowing two hits and striking out six batters to pick up the victory.

USI junior right-hander Shaun Larsen pitched a perfect ninth inning to record his sixth save of the year. Larsen is just two saves away from the USI single season record.

At the plate, USI cut the UW-Parkside lead to 5-4 with three runs in the fourth and a Thieroff home run in the fifth. The home run was Thieroff's first of the season.

USI scored the tying and winning runs in the sixth. Senior centerfielder Michael Beaven (Indianapolis, Indiana) scored the tying run on a single by sophomore shortstop Wes Fink (Clarksville, Tennessee), while junior leftfielder Royle Beach (Aurora, Colorado) scored the game-winner on a wild pitch.
