LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team lost in the final second, 56-54, to third-ranked Bentley College in the final round of the Disney Division II Tip-Off Classic Sunday afternoon at Disney's Wide World of Sports. USI starts the year with a 1-2 mark, while Bentley wins the Group Learning part of the Tip-Off Classic with a 2-1 record.

USI jumped out in front early, building an initial 12-4 lead. Bentley would push back and used a sluggish five minutes by USI to tie the score at 14 and take a 17-14 lead. The Eagles regained control and exploded with a 17-3 run to lead 31-20 by halftime.

The Screaming Eagles were led in the opening half by senior forward Anthony Pimble (Bronx, New York), and junior guard Marvin Gray (Bahamas), who had eight points each. Pimble also scored six straight points during the 17-4 run, while Gray dropped in the final two buckets of the first half.

In the second half, USI extended the lead to 15 points, 35-20 and 38-23, in the opening minutes and had a 47-35 margin with 9:22 left in the game. Bentley began to chip away at the USI lead and used a 17-4 run to take its first lead of the second half, 52-51. The Eagles fought back and tied the game 53-53 with just over a minute to play.

The teams traded free throws to put the score at 54-54 and set the stage for Bentley's game winning shot. The Falcons' junior guard Jason Westrol scored with nine-tenths of a second on an inbounds pass for the win 56-54. Westrol finished with a game-high 22 points.

USI had a chance to go ahead in the final 13 seconds, but turned the ball over in the lane.

"Bentley fought back and got to the free throw line 30 times in the game, making them down the stretch," said USI Head Coach Rick Herdes. "They did what they needed to do to win the game and that is what a veteran team does.

"(USI) played well for about 35 minutes," continued Herdes. "We have to stop fouling and take advantage of shots on the offensive end when they present themselves."

USI was led by Pimble, who had a team-high 20 points and was named to the All-Tournament team. Pimble was joined in double-figure scoring by Gray, who had 13 points.

The Eagles open a 19-game home schedule November 15 when they host Urbana University. Game time will be 7:30 p.m.
