INDIANAPOLIS—The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team used a balanced scoring attack and a flurry of decisive runs to roll past Grace College, 87-62, Saturday evening in the Indianapolis Classic.

USI (4-2) used runs of 10-0 and 9-0 to build a 41-25 halftime advantage. Sophomore guard Amie Newhart (Mulberry, Indiana) was 4-of-5 from the field in the first half and scored all 12 of her points in the opening frame to help the Screaming Eagles jump out to the 16-point lead at the break.

After watching their lead shrink to 11 points five minutes into the second stanza, the Eagles used a pair of 8-0 spurts to build their largest lead of the contest (74-49) with less than eight minutes to play in the game.

The Eagles, who had five players reach double figures for the second time this season, got a combined 27 second-half points out of junior guard/forward Abby Williams (St. Joseph, Illinois), freshman guard Rinesha Soaper (Henderson, Kentucky), and senior forward/center Brittany Neuman (Huntingburg, Indiana).

Williams finished the contest with a team-high 13 points to go along with seven rebounds. Soaper added 10 points, while Neuman recorded her second double-double of the season with 12 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

Sophomore guard Ellen Young (Salem, Indiana) chipped in 12 points and a game-high five steals, while fellow classmate Lauren Meneghetti (Munster, Indiana) added nine points and a game-high five assists.

As a team, the Eagles shot 41.9 percent from the field and were 10-of-24 from behind the arc. They also had a 46-35 advantage on the glass.

USI opens GLVC play Thursday at 5:30 p.m. when it travels to Romeoville, Illinois, to take on Lewis University. The Eagles also take on the University of Wisconsin-Parkside next Saturday in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
