EVANSVILLE, Ind.– The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team opened the second annual Bill Joergens Memorial Tournament with an 87-64 victory over King College Friday evening at the Physical Activities Center. USI raises its record to 6-2 overall, while King falls to 7-2 in 2008-09.

The Screaming Eagles came out of the gate sluggish, spotting the Tornado an early 12 point lead, 23-11, with 11:34 left in the first half. USI slowly erased the margin with a 12-0 run and built a 12-point advantage of its own, 49-37, with 1:54 left in the opening 20 minutes.

The Tornado bounced back and cut the margin to eight, 49-41, by the intermission.

In the second half, the Eagles took control and never looked back with a 20-6 run to start the final 20 minutes. USI would go on to lead by as many as 25 points, 87-62, with 1:33 left before settling for the 87-64 victory.

USI was sparked by junior guard Marvin Gray (Bahamas) with 14 points and eight assists. Junior forward/center Jeron Lewis (Ft. Wayne, Indiana) followed Gray in the scoring column with 13 points, while senior forward Anthony Pimble (Bronx, New York) and junior forward Brandon Russ (Cincinnati, Ohio) rounded out the double-figure scorers with 11 points each.

The Eagles outrebounded the Tornado, 43-32, and was led by junior forward Tyrone Bradshaw (Cincinnati, Ohio), who had a game-high eight boards. Bradshaw was followed on the boards by Russ, who had seven rebounds.

USI concludes the six-game homestand and the Bill Joergens Memorial Tournament Saturday when it hosts third-ranked Florida Southern College at 7:30 p.m. Florida Southern lost a 62-60 decision to Bellarmine University in the final minute of game one.

Bellarmine and King will match-up prior to USI and Florida Southern at 5:15 p.m. in game three of the tournament.
