ROMEOVILLE, Ill.—The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team fell to No. 18-ranked Lewis University 25-16, 25-21, 25-18 Friday night.
USI (7-10, 2-6 GLVC) held a brief 2-0 lead in the first set, but a 13-2 run by the Flyers put the Screaming Eagles in a hole they could not recover from. The Flyers hit .400 in the first set as they claimed a 1-0 lead in the match.
The Eagles battled the Flyers to a 12-12 tie midway through the second frame, but another Lewis spurt gave the two-time defending GLVC champions a four-point lead they would not surrender.
Lewis (15-3, 7-0 GLVC), which hammered down 51 kills and hit .390 for the match, attacked at a .413 clip in the third frame as it claimed the three-set victory.
Offensively, the Eagles hit .170 but were held to just 30 kills as they lost for the second straight outing and the seventh time in eight matches.
Junior outside hitter
Courtney Bealor (LaPorte, Indiana) and sophomore outside hitter
