EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team started 2008 on a positive note with a 67-44 victory over the University of Missouri-St. Louis Thursday night in St. Louis, Missouri. USI raises its record to 8-2 overall and 2-0 in the GLVC, while UMSL falls to 4-6 overall, 0-3 GLVC.
The win also raises the Screaming Eagles winning streak to a season-best six games.
The Eagles built a commanding 35-19 lead by halftime on the strength of several six and eight point runs. USI's biggest lead in the opening half was 19 points, 31-12, just before the intermission.
USI continued its dominance in the second half, extending the lead to as many as 25 points twice in the final five minutes. The 44 UMSL point total was USI's best defensive effort of the season.
The Eagles were led by a trio of double-figure scorers, led by junior forward
Anthony Pimble (Bronx, New York) with a game-high 14 points. USI senior forward
Norman Plummer (Cincinnati, Ohio) and sophomore guard
Darren Cloud (Evansville, Indiana) followed Pimble with 13 points each.
The Eagles complete their first GLVC road trip of the year at Missouri University of Science and Technology Saturday at 3:15 p.m. Missouri S&T saw its record fall to 3-8 overall and 0-3 in the GLVC after losing to Kentucky Wesleyan College, 76-65, at home tonight.
