Eagles' comeback not enough against Hawks

Quincy 74, Southern Indiana 64

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team could not overcome a 19-point second half deficit in stumbling to Quincy University, 74-64, Thursday night at the Physical Activities Center. USI drops its fifth-straight decision and falls to 9-7 overall, 3-5 in the GLVC, while Quincy goes to 7-9 overall, 1-7 GLVC.

Trailing by 19 points, 61-42, with 10 minutes to play, the Screaming Eagles fought their way back into the contest with a 15-2 run to pull to within six points, 63-57, with 3:15 left. The Eagles were led during the comeback senior guard Tyson Schnitker (Robinson, Illinois), who scored 10 of his game-high 22 points during the run.

Schnitker's 22 points, five rebounds, and three steals were all season highs for the senior guard.

The six-point margin was all the closer the Eagles could come the rest of the way. USI cut the margin to six points a total of three times in the final minutes only to see Quincy respond and re-extend its lead.

The Hawks flew out in front for good during the first half by steadily building a lead with hot shooting. Quincy shot 70.8 percent from the field (17-24), 66.7 percent from long range (10-15), and went into the intermission with a 12-point lead, 44-32.

Schnitker was joined in double-figure scoring by senior forward/center Norman Plummer (Cincinnati, Ohio), who had 13 points, and junior forward Anthony Pimble (Bronx, New York), who dropped in 10 points. Pimble also had a game-high nine rebounds.

The next action for the Eagles is Saturday at 3:15 p.m. when Southern Illinois University Edwardsville comes to the PAC for the final time as a member of the GLVC. SIUE fell to 8-7 overall and 2-6 in the GLVC after losing to Kentucky Wesleyan College, 77-69, in Owensboro, Kentucky, tonight.
