Amber Gogel (Ferdinand, Indiana) recorded a school-record 37 digs to help lead the University of Southern Indiana volleyball team to a 29-31, 30-20, 30-18, 30-21 victory over Quincy University in both teams' GLVC-opener Friday night at the Physical Activities Center.
Freshman outside hitter
Brittani Oliver (Indianapolis, Indiana) had a match-high 17 kills, while senior setter
Stephanie Wilson (Terre Haute, Indiana) recorded a match-high tying 36 assists in just three games of work.
USI (5-3, 1-0 GLVC) bounced back from an opening-game loss to hit .333 in game two and even the match at a game each.
The Screaming Eagles finished the third game by reeling off a 7-0 run and hit .359 in the fourth game as they cruised to their ninth GLVC-opening victory in the last 10 years.
USI also got 12 kills from junior middle blocker
Meg Buschman (Reynolds, Indiana) and 10 kills each from sophomore outside hitter
Courtney Bealor (LaPorte, Indiana) and senior middle blocker
Molly Rahman (Ferdinand, Indiana). Bealor also had 14 digs, while Buschman racked up a match-high six blocks.
The Eagles return to action Saturday at 3 p.m. when they host No. 14 Southern Illinois University Edwardsville at the PAC.
