Eagles fall to red-hot Northern Kentucky squad

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky.—The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team fell to a red-hot Northern Kentucky University squad Saturday afternoon. The No. 24 Norse posted wins of 30-19, 30-17, and 30-21 to hand the Screaming Eagles just their third 3-0 loss of the season.

USI (9-8, 4-5 GLVC) hit a respectable .242 in game one, but watched the Norse (17-4, 6-2 GLVC) slam down 21 kills and a .439 attacking percentage to win the first game in convincing fashion.

The Eagles struggled to get any type of attack going in games two and three, while Northern Kentucky, which recorded side-out percentages of 85.0, 76.0, and 63.0, respectively, continued with dominating offensive performances in the second and third sets.

For the match, USI hit .132 and was held to a season-low 25 kills, while the Norse hit .373 with 64 kills.

Junior middle blocker Meg Buschman (Reynolds, Indiana) led the Eagles with eight kills, while sophomore outside hitter Courtney Bealor (LaPorte, Indiana) racked up 12 digs in the loss.

NKU benefited from the performance of senior middle hitter Liz Holmes, who finished with 20 kills and a .704 attacking percentage.

The Eagles return to action Friday at 7 p.m. when they host Lewis University at the Physical Activities Center. USI also hosts the University of Wisconsin-Parkside next Saturday at 3 p.m.
