Eagles get first taste of GLVC East Division

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team is making its final preparations for one of its toughest road trips of the 2007 season and its first taste of the GLVC's East Division.

USI (8-6, 3-3 GLVC) will make visits to No. 25 University of Indianapolis Thursday at 6 p.m. (CDT), Saint Joseph's College Friday at 7 p.m., and No. 24 Northern Kentucky University Saturday at 2 p.m. (CDT).

The Screaming Eagles are coming off a 1-1 weekend that saw them fall to Rockhurst University in five games before defeating Drury University in five games. They are currently tied with the University of Missouri-St. Louis for third in the GLVC West Division.

Senior middle blocker Molly Rahman (Ferdinand, Indiana) and junior libero Amber Gogel (Ferdinand, Indiana) continue to lead the Eagles.

Rahman has racked up a team-best .319 attacking percentage to go along with team-high 3.08 kills and 1.10 blocks per game. Gogel is fourth in the GLVC with a team-best 5.00 digs per game.

Senior setter Stephanie Wilson (Terre Haute, Indiana) is coming off a solid weekend in which she came within two kills of recording her first-career triple-double. Wilson is averaging a team-best 10.91 assists per game to go along with a .317 attacking percentage, 2.41 digs, and 0.52 blocks per game.

Indianapolis (15-1, 6-0 GLVC) is one of the hottest teams in the country, having won 12 straight matches en route to its best start in school history. USI has lost two straight to the Greyhounds after winning a wild five-game match over Indianapolis at the PAC in 2005.

Saint Joseph's (9-6, 3-3 GLVC) is fourth in the GLVC East Division after recording a 3-0 victory over Bellarmine University last Saturday. The Pumas are much improved in 2007 after finishing the 2006 season with a 6-20 record.

Northern Kentucky (15-4, 4-2 GLVC) also has had a solid start to the 2007 year, having knocked off three top-10 teams. The Norse have won two straight over the Eagles, including a 3-0 victory in Highland Heights, Kentucky, last season.
