USI men's soccer wins home opener

USI 3, Georgetown 0

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team scored three goals in the first half and cruised to a 3-0 victory over Georgetown College to open the 2007 home schedule Sunday afternoon at Strassweg Field. USI raises its record to 2-1-0 overall, while Georgetown fell to -0-3-0.

USI freshman forward Dan Dormeier gave the Eagles all of the offense they would need in the first half. He scored his first collegiate goal just 49 seconds into the match on a break-away. The break-away was started on a pass by senior midfielder Carl Carr (England), who was credited with his first assist of the season.

The Eagles sealed the victory at the 10:29 mark when junior midfielder Tyree Robinson (Jefferson City, Missouri) scored off a pass from freshman midfielder Michael Simcock (England). The goal was Robinson's first of the season, while the assist was the first of Simcock's collegiate career.

USI sophomore forward Paul Hutchens (Libertyville, Illinois) finished the scoring for the Eagles with an unassisted goal at 37:09 and gave USI a 3-0 advantage at halftime.

In the second half, USI junior goalkeeper Andrew Hults (Valley Park, Missouri) would make those three goals stand up as he earned his first shutout as an Eagle. Hults made four saves in the second half and stood solid against 11 shots total in the match.

The Eagles hit the road this week to begin the 2007 GLVC schedule. USI starts league play by crossing the Ohio River to play Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro, Kentucky, Tuesday. Match time at KWC is 4 p.m.
