LOUISVILLE, Ky.. – The University of Southern Indiana baseball team fell to third place in the GLVC after dropping a 10-3 decision at Bellarmine University Tuesday afternoon in Louisville, Kentucky. USI falls to 35-17 overall and 23-13 overall, while Bellarmine goes to 27-25 overall, 23-12 GLVC.
The Knights scored in each of the first four innings in building a 9-0 lead. The Eagles got onto the scoreboard in the seventh when junior leftfielderÂ
Bryan Rudden (Crystal Lake, Illinois) and junior first basemanÂ
Matt Pleiss (Newburgh, Indiana) scored on singles by junior second basemanÂ
Darin Mastroianni (Huntersville, North Carolina) and sophomore designated hitterÂ
Chad Werry (New Harmony, Indiana).
After Bellarmine responded with a run in the bottom of the eighth, USI finished the scoring when Werry scored on a double play in the top of the ninth. Rudden, Mastroianni, and Werry led the way for the Eagles overall with two hits each.
On the mound, senior left-handerÂ
Brent Wendholt (St. Anthony, Indiana) had his four-game winning streak ended. Wendholt (5-3) lasted only 1.2 innings and allowed five hits and five runs.
The Eagles conclude the regular season this weekend when travel to Springfield, Missouri, for a three-game series at Drury University. The first pitch for Saturday's doubleheader and Sunday's single game is noon each day.
