ROMEOVILLE, Ill.. – The University of Southern Indiana baseball team recorded a second straight doubleheader sweep in three days and has won five in a row by winning a pair of GLVC games at Lewis University Saturday afternoon in Romeoville, Illinois. USI won the opener, 5-0, and the nightcap, 21-4.
The victories raised the Screaming Eagles' record to 26-11 overall and 15-7 in the GLVC, while the Flyers fall to 4-29 overall, 3-20 GLVC.
In 5-0 USI victory, senior right-handerÂ
Adam Summers (Dyer, Indiana) won his third straight game on the mound. Summers (6-1), who has not given up an earned run in his last 21 innings, allowed just three hits and struck out five in seven innings of work to record his team-best sixth victory of the year.
At the plate, USI was led by senior rightfielderÂ
Hunter Slade (Newburgh, Indiana) and sophomore designated hitterÂ
Chad Werry (New Harmony, Indiana). Both were three-for-four with Slade scoring a run and Werry scoring a pair of tallies. USI sophomore third basemanÂ
Alex Thieroff (Greenfield, Indiana) had a pair of RBIs in the opener.
In the 21-4 nightcap win, senior right-handerÂ
Adam Vetter (Dyer, Indiana) pitched six innings to pick-up his fifth victory of the year. Vetter (5-1) scattered eight hits and allowed four runs, while striking out four in the win.
USI sophomore right-handerÂ
Dan Kissel (Evansville, Indiana) and junior right-handerÂ
Jeremy Kehrt (Plainfield, Indiana) finished the game on the mound for the Eagles.
Offensively, USI had 15 hits and drew 16 walks (tied a USI single-game record) to score 21 runs. Slade led the offensive outburst by driving in six runs, while junior first basemanÂ
Josh Malone (Chesterton, Indiana) knocked in four more RBIs.

Michael Beaven (Indianapolis, Indiana) and junior second basemanÂ
Darin Mastroianni (Huntersville, North Carolina) scored five times and four times, respectively. Mastroianni, who has swiped 34 bases this year, also came to within one stolen base of the USI single season record of 35 set by Todd DeWeese in 1989.
The Eagles and the Flyers conclude the four-game series noon Sunday at Brennan Field. The first game will be a GLVC contest, while the second will be a non-conference match-up.
