Turnovers cost Eagles in loss

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team fell to the University of Missouri-Rolla, 73-56, Saturday afternoon at the Physical Activities Center.

USI (13-8, 7-6 GLVC) committed 28 turnovers in the loss and was held to just 35.1 percent shooting from the field.

UM-Rolla (12-9, 5-8 GLVC) used a 9-2 run in the first half to race out to a 22-13 advantage with less than 10 minutes to play in the opening frame. The Miners pushed their lead to as many as 11 before settling for a 30-23 halftime edge.

The Miners started the second half with a 12-3 run that put them up 42-26 with less than 17 minutes to play. USI chipped into the lead, cutting the deficit to 11 with less than eight minutes to play, but another 12-3 run ended any chances for the Screaming Eagles to come out with a victory.

Senior guard Katie Thiesenhusen (Muskego, Wisconsin) led the Eagles with 15 point and four assists, while senior forward Michelle King (Columbus, Indiana) and junior forward Jasmine Baines (Jeffersonville, Indiana) each finished with 10 points. Senior forward/center Sarah Buldtman (Metropolis, Illinois) led USI with a game-high 10 rebounds.

UM-Rolla got a game-high 20 points out of senior guard Maggie Thompson as well as 12 points out of junior forward Katie Bunge. Sophomore forward Tamara McCaskill added 11 points and a team-best six rebounds.

The Eagles repeat the previous week with road games at the University of Missouri-St. Louis Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and at Missouri-Rolla next Saturday at 1 p.m.
