Eagles struggle to keep stride with No. 19 UIndy

Fall in three games despite solid effort

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team fell to No. 19 University of Indianapolis 30-23, 30-21, 30-16 Friday night in the first round of the GLVC Tournament despite a solid effort.

USI (15-14) bows out of the first round for the third straight season, while the Greyhounds (31-2) advance to the semifinals where they will meet Rockhurst University.

The Screaming Eagles kept it close early in the first two games, but short spurts by the Greyhounds in the middle stages of each set gave Indianapolis a two-game advantage.

In game one, the Greyhounds used a 6-1 run and a blistering .340 attacking percentage to gain the 1-0 advantage. USI was held to a negative .023 attacking clip and was on the opposite end of a 9-2 run as it fell into a two-game hole.

Indianapolis used a 10-3 run and a .514 attacking clip in game three to finish off the sweep.

Senior middle blocker Molly Rahman (Ferdinand, Indiana) led the Eagles with 10 kills and four blocks, while freshman outside hitter Brittani Oliver (Indianapolis, Indiana) had eight kills, a .353 attacking percentage, and 12 digs. Rahman finished her career as USI's all-time leader with 323 block assists.

Sophomore setter Melanie Pund (Ferdinand, Indiana) finished with 31 assists, six digs, and four blocks, while sophomore libero Julia Ridley (Madisonville, Kentucky) finished with 14 digs.
