EVANSVILLE, Ind. – The University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team was stunned by the University of Illinois-Springfield, 68-66, Tuesday evening at the Physical Activities Center. USI falls to 1-1 to start the year, while UIS goes to 5-3 in 2007-08.

The loss broke USI's 19-game home winning streak and its 28-game winning streak against NAIA programs.

The Screaming Eagles had a chance to put the game away in the second half when they built an 11-point lead, 50-39, with 9:53 to play. The Prairie Stars fought back with a 21-8 run and took a two-point lead, 60-58, with 3:08 left.

USI came back to retake the lead, 66-65, on a jumper by senior forward Norman Plummer (Cincinnati, Ohio). The Prairie Stars bounced back to get the game-winning three-point bucket when UIS junior guard Nick Livas sank the long-range jumper from the right side with eight seconds to play.

USI, which led 29-28 at the intermission, were outrebounded 40-29 and were only able to grab four offensive rebounds.

The Eagles were led by Plummer who had a game-high 29 points and 10 rebounds. He was followed in the scoring column by sophomore guard Darren Cloud (Evansville, Indiana) with 18 points.

USI returns to action Friday and Saturday when it hosts the inaugural Bill Joergens Memorial Tournament at the PAC. Friday's games will feature Bellarmine University against fourth-ranked Northwest Missouri State University at 5:15 p.m., while USI hosts Southwest Minnesota State University at 7:30 p.m.

The final round of the tournament on Saturday has Bellarmine against Southwest Minnesota State at 5:15 p.m., while USI takes on Northwest Missouri State at 7:30 p.m.
