Eagles host Central Missouri, Cumberlands

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team returns to action Tuesday at 5:15 p.m. when it hosts the University of Central Missouri at the Physical Activities Center. The Screaming Eagles conclude their three-game homestand Saturday when they host the University of the Cumberlands (Kentucky) at 2:30 p.m.

USI (1-0) is coming off a 90-50 victory over the University of Illinois-Springfield in its season-opener Saturday. The Eagles scored 47 points off of 39 Prairie Star turnovers en route to their first season-opening victory since 2004-05.

Senior forward Jasmine Baines (Jeffersonville, Indiana) scored a game-high 22 points, while pulling down a team-high tying six rebounds. Junior guard Carly Clendenen (Anderson, Indiana) added 18 points, 15 of which came from behind the arc, three assists, and three steals.

Junior guard Brittany Darden (Guthrie, Kentucky) and sophomore guard VaNita Smart (Evansville, Indiana) each added 12 points and two assists, while Smart collected five steals.

USI and Central Missouri are knotted up at a win each in the all-time series after the Jennies pinned a 58-47 loss on the Eagles in Warrensburg, Missouri, a year ago.

The Jennies (1-1) are coming off an 81-69 victory over St. Mary's University (Texas) after suffering a 70-59 setback at the hands of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in their season-opener.

Sophomore guard Deidra Dace leads the Jennies with 19.0 points per game, while senior forward Jojuanna Jones is chipping in 15.5 points and a team-high 8.5 rebounds per contest.

Saturday's contest with Cumberlands will be the first meeting between the two schools. The Patriots (6-0), who were 25-6 a year ago, are coming off a 65-53 victory over Martin Methodist College in the Pikeville Classic this past Saturday.

Junior guard Madison Flowers leads the Patriots with 15.3 points per game, while senior guard Lissi Fuller is chipping in 13.8 points and a team-high 4.5 assists per contest. Sophomore guard Amber Neace is adding 11.3 points and 6.2 rebounds per game, while senior forward/center Crystal Taylor has recorded 10.5 points and 7.2 rebounds per outing.
