EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team is jockeying for position in the GLVC standings as it heads into the final two weeks of the regular season.
USI (12-11, 7-8 GLVC) is fifth-place in the GLVC West Division standings and in possession of the second wild card spot. The Screaming Eagles, who have a stronghold for the second wild card spot, are just a game out of third-place in the West Division.
The Eagles can take a big step toward ensuring themselves a spot in the GLVC Tournament with a win Friday night at Quincy University (match time is 7 p.m.). USI defeated the Lady Hawks in four games at the Physical Activities Center earlier this season and is looking to add to a six-match winning streak in the series between the two squads.
Quincy (17-12, 5-10 GLVC) is fighting for its GLVC Tournament survival heading into the final two weeks of the season. The Lady Hawks have won two of their last three contests, including a 3-0 win over the University of Missouri-Rolla in their most recent match.
Following their match with Quincy, the Eagles travel to Edwardsville, Illinois, to take on No. 16 Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Saturday at 3 p.m.
The Eagles are looking to defeat the SIU Edwardsville for the first time since their 3-1 victory over the Cougars in the 2004 GLVC Tournament championship match. The Cougars, who defeated the Eagles in four games at the PAC earlier in the year, have won five straight over USI and lead the all-time series, 15-9, since 1989.
SIU Edwardsville (21-5, 13-2 GLVC), which is coming off a 3-2 victory over No. 6 Truman State University, has won seven straight matches.
USI concludes its regular-season slate with three home matches, including a non-conference match against Oakland City University Tuesday at 7 p.m.
