EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's soccer team ended the 2007 season with a 3-1 victory over the University of Missouri-Rolla Sunday afternoon at Strassweg Field.
USI (7-10-1, 5-7-1 GLVC) got three goals and an assist out of its senior class, which was honored prior to kick-off.
Senior
Mallory Minor (Evansville, Indiana) started the scoring in the eighth minute of the contest when she used a solid pass from fellow classmate
Jessica Stawick (Indianapolis, Indiana) to get off a pair of shots. Her first shot ricocheted off a Missouri-Rolla defender, but the deflected ball found its way back to Minor's right foot and subsequently into the back of the net. Stawick was credited with an assist for setting up Minor on the first shot.
The Screaming Eagles struck again later in the first half when senior
Julie Collins (Merrillville, Indiana) used a cross from sophomore
Shauni Boudia (Noblesville, Indiana) in the 40th minute to give USI a 2-0 lead.
After spotting the Miners (5-12-1, 2-10-1 GLVC) a goal in the 56th minute of the second half, senior
Katie Grossman (Evansville, Indiana) put the match on ice with her fifth tally of the season—an unassisted goal in the 73rd minute of the contest.
The Eagles dominated the match offensively as they racked up a 21-10 advantage in shots, including an 11-5 edge in shots on goal.
Defensively, senior goalkeeper
Meagan Homolla (Portage, Indiana) recorded four saves to pick up the victory in her final contest in a USI uniform.
