Eagles get taste of Missouri

Play next four against UMSL, UMR

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team gets its fill of Missouri during the next two weeks as it squares off against the University of Missouri-St. Louis and the University of Missouri-Rolla in its next four games.

USI hosts UM-St. Louis Thursday at 5:15 p.m. and UM-Rolla Saturday at 1 p.m. for Homecoming at the Physical Activities Center. The Screaming Eagles travel to St. Louis February 8 to take on the Riverwomen and to Rolla, Missouri, February 10 to take on the Miners.

The Eagles (12-7, 6-5 GLVC) stopped their five-game losing streak last Saturday with a 75-58 victory over the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. Junior guard Missy Glaser (Evansville, Indiana) had a game and career-high 24 points, while senior forward Sabrina Brandon (Danville, Illinois) and senior guard Katie Thiesenhusen (Muskego, Wisconsin) finished with 19 and 16 points, respectively.

Thiesenhusen leads the Eagles with 13.2 points and 2.6 assists per game, while junior forward Jasmine Baines (Jeffersonville, Indiana), who had a team-high 23 points in USI's 92-72 loss at No. 9 Lewis University, is second on the team with 12.4 points per outing. Brandon is third on the squad with 11.5 points per contest, while senior forward/center Sarah Buldtman (Metropolis, Illinois) is averaging a team-best 5.6 rebounds per game.

UM-St. Louis (5-12, 1-9 GLVC) has lost seven of its last eight games, including a 66-51 setback at the University of Missouri-Rolla last Saturday. Senior center Jennifer Martin leads the Riverwomen with 11.5 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 2.9 blocks per game. Junior forward Taylor Gagliano is averaging 10.2 points per contest, while junior guard Courtney Watts is averaging 8.7 points and a team-high 3.2 assists per game.

USI leads the all-time series with the Riverwomen, 19-10, and is 10-4 against UMSL since 2000. The two teams split the season-series last year, with each team winning on the road. UMSL's 61-56 victory over the Eagles in last year's regular-season finale prevented USI from making a trip to the GLVC Tournament.

UM-Rolla (11-8, 4-7 GLVC), who visits Kentucky Wesleyan College Thursday evening, enters the PAC for Saturday's Homecoming game on the heels of back-to-back victories a week ago. Sophomore forward Tamara McCaskill is averaging a team-high 14.3 points in addition to 6.2 rebounds per game, while senior guard Nicole Dierking is adding 12.7 points and a team-leading 6.9 rebounds per contest.

Junior forward Katie Bunge is chipping in 10.4 points and 5.3 rebounds per outing, while junior guard Jamie Forsberg leads the Miners with 3.8 assists per game.

USI is 0-4 all-time against the Miners after losing both games a year ago.
