ROMEOVILLE, Ill.—The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team could not keep up with No. 9 Lewis University Thursday evening as it lost its fifth straight game, 92-72.

USI (11-7, 5-5 GLVC) jumped out to an early 4-2 advantage when senior guard Katie Thiesenhusen (Muskego, Wisconsin) converted on a four-point play. However, the Flyers shot 51.5 percent from the floor in the opening half and held the Screaming Eagles to just 26.7 percent from the field as they stormed into the locker room with a commanding 44-29 halftime advantage.

The Eagles, ranked seventh in the Great Lakes Region, got to with in 13 early in the second half, but an 18-3 run that lasted more than four minutes blew the game wide open for the Flyers.

On the strength of 16 second-half points from junior forward Jasmine Baines (Jeffersonville, Indiana), the Eagles were able to cut what was a 28-point Lewis lead to 18 with less than two minutes remaining in the game.

USI, which shot 43.3 percent in the second half and turned out its highest point total in its five-game losing streak, had know answer for an impressive Lewis offense which shot 52.8 percent in the closing half.

The Flyers (16-2, 9-1 GLVC), ranked first in the region, sported two players with 20 or more points. Senior guard/forward Mary Moskal posted a game-high 27 points and 12 rebounds, while the GLVC's leading scorer, senior forward Darcee Schmidt, finished with 24 points. Senior guard Brittney Diener dished out nine assists for the Flyers, who have won 10 straight games.

Baines led the Eagles with a season-high 23 points, while Thiesenhusen added 10 points, nine of which came from behind the arc. Junior guard Missy Glaser (Evansville, Indiana) dished out a team-high four assists, while senior forward/center Sarah Buldtman (Metropolis, Indiana) grabbed a team-leading seven rebounds.

USI returns to action Saturday when it visits the University of Wisconsin-Parkside in a 1 p.m. tip-off. UW-Parkside (13-5, 6-4 GLVC) defeated Kentucky Wesleyan College, 68-67, Thursday evening.
