QUINCY, IL.— The 5th-ranked University of Southern Indiana men's basketball team lost a chance to take over first place in the GLVC West Division after losing to 10th-ranked Quincy University in overtime, 76-74, in Quincy, Illinois. USI, which sees its seven game winning streak stopped, falls to 16-2 overall and 5-2 in the GLVC, while Quincy goes to 14-2, 7-1 GLVC.

The first half was a seesaw affair as each team recorded double-digit runs in attempt to take command of the game. USI's nine-point margin was the largest lead of the half at 18-9, while Quincy had a seven-point lead at 31-24. The Eagles took a slim one-point lead, 38-37, at halftime.

USI started the second half with another double-digit run, 10-2, to take a 48-39 lead in the opening minutes. The Eagles would extend the lead to as many as 11 points, 50-39, before the first 10 minutes of the second half was completed.

The Hawks rebound with a 13-1 run to cut the Eagles lead to 57-56. USI would boost the lead back to four points a couple of times before Quincy tied the score 66-66 with 1:24 to play. USI had a three-pointer by senior forward Marty Wise (New Orleans, Louisiana) waved off by an in-advertent whistle in the final seconds of regulation.

The teams exchanged leads in the overtime before the Hawks took the lead for good on a rebound tip-in by junior forward Joel Box with six seconds to play. USI senior forward Geoff Van Winkle (Ferdinand, Indiana) had a final look for the Eagles, but his three-pointer went off the glass.

A large key the game was second half shooting for the Eagles. USI shot below 35 percent for the second straight game in the second half, 21.5 percent below its season average.

USI was led by Wise with 12 points, while senior center Rashard Sullivan (Miami, Florida) and Van Winkle rounded out the double-figure scorers with 11 points and 10 points, respectively.

The Eagles return to the friendly surroundings of the Physical Activities Center next week when they host a pair of teams from the GLVC East Division. USI will play Bellarmine University Thursday at 7:30 p.m. and Northern Kentucky University Saturday at 3:15 p.m.
