Emily Ryan (Batesville, Indiana) reached her 1,000th career kill in a 3-0 (30-20, 41-39, 30-23) loss to No. 17 Rockhurst University Friday night at the Physical Activities Center.
Ryan had a match-high 18 kills to go with a team-best 11 digs, while senior outside hitter
Chelse Doubler (Griffin, Indiana) had 17 kills and a team-high .424 attacking percentage.
The Screaming Eagles (6-3, 0-1 GLVC) also got 10 kills from junior middle blocker
Molly Rahman (Ferdinand, Indiana) and a match-high 48 assists from junior setter
Stephanie Wilson (Terre Haute, Indiana).
The match was highlighted by a wild second game that saw the two teams trade points well past the regulation 30-point plateau that it takes to win a game. USI survived five game points before falling 41-39 in the middle frame.
Rockhurst (9-0, 1-0 GLVC) hit .607 in game one to set the tone for the match. The Hawks added a .350 attacking percentage in the third game as they remained perfect on the season.
USI returns to action Saturday when it hosts Drury University at 3 p.m. in the PAC. The Panthers (6-3, 0-0 GLVC) were at No. 23 Southern Illinois University Edwardsville Friday night to start their GLVC slate.
