Eagles fall to UM-Rolla, 80-73, in overtime

Must win Saturday and get help to enter GLVC Tournament

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team went through its second consecutive overtime Thursday evening at the Physical Activities Center. However, unlike this past Saturday when USI defeated Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in an extra frame, the Screaming Eagles came up on the short end, falling to the University of Missouri-Rolla, 80-73.

After overcoming a four-point deficit in the final two minutes of regulation to send the game into overtime, USI was held scoreless for the first two minutes of the extra period.

UM-Rolla (16-10, 10-9 GLVC) took advantage by shooting 80.0 percent from the field and reeling off a 7-0 run to take a commanding 70-63 advantage. The Lady Miners also went 8-of-11 from the charity stripe in overtime.

The Screaming Eagles (15-14, 7-11 GLVC), who shot just 39.7 percent from the floor, 33.3 percent in overtime, could not get any closer than six points as the Lady Miners won their third straight game and clinched the third seed in the GLVC West Division.

USI's loss puts them in a situation where it must win Saturday against the University of Missouri-St. Louis and have Kentucky Wesleyan College defeat Saint Joseph's College.

Freshman point guard Keisha Collins (South Holland, Illinois) led the Eagles with 15 points and five assists, while junior guard Katie Thiesenhusen (Muskego, Wisconsin) finished with 14 points and five rebounds. Freshman forward/center Jessica Grimaldo (Carmi, Illinois) had 12 points and five rebounds, while sophomore forward Jasmine Baines (Jeffersonville, Indiana) chipped in 11 points before fouling out late in the second half.

Collins, who sent the game into overtime with her jumper with four seconds remaining in regulation, scored eight of her 15 points in the extra period.

Senior guard Deosha Agnew led the Lady Miners with a game-high 22 points, while junior guard Nicole Dierking finished with 18 points and a game-high seven rebounds.

USI's game with UM-St. Louis Saturday will tip off at 1 p.m., following the Senior Day ceremonies that will honor senior guard Tiara Brown (Normal, Illinois) and senior forward Ashley Green (Otterbein, Indiana). UM-St. Louis (15-11, 8-10 GLVC) enters the PAC having lost its last two games, the most recent being a 53-52 setback at UM-Rolla Tuesday.
