EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team wraps up its four-game homestand when it hosts Marygrove College Thursday at 6 p.m. and arch-rival Kentucky Wesleyan College Saturday at 5:15 p.m.
USI (2-1, 0-0 GLVC) defeated the University of Illinois-Springfield, 84-53, and Christian Brothers University, 68-51, last week to start the home stretch. Senior forward
Michelle King (Columbus, Indiana) led the Screaming Eagles with 22 points and 10 rebounds in their win over Illinois-Springfield, while senior guard
Katie Thiesenhusen (Muskego, Indiana) led USI with 18 points in its victory over Christian Brothers.
For the season, junior forward
Jasmine Baines (Jeffersonville, Indiana) leads the Eagles with 13.7 points per game and is second on the team with 6.0 rebounds per contest. King is averaging 12.3 points per outing and a team-high 6.3 rebounds per game. Senior guard
Leah Stormont (Haubstadt, Indiana) leads the Eagles with 3.7 assists per contest.
Thursday's meeting with Marygrove (Detroit, Michigan) will be the first between the two schools. Marygrove (4-3) is coming off a 72-69 victory over Concordia College (Michigan). Junior guard Amanda DeGain led the Mustangs with 22 points and nine rebounds, while junior guard Karmen Byrd added 16 points and five rebounds.
Saturday's contest with Kentucky Wesleyan (5-0, 0-0 GLVC) is the first conference game for either school. The Panthers are coming off a 91-43 drubbing of Mid-Continent College and have posted an average margin of victory of nearly 23 points per game in their first five contests.
Freshman guard Latoshia Lawrence leads the Panthers with 15.8 points per game, while junior forward LaTasha Henry is leading the squad with 6.6 rebounds per contest. Junior guard Laura McClintic leads KWC with 4.2 assists per outing.
Despite an 85-75 setback to the Panthers in Owensboro, Kentucky, last season, the Eagles lead the all-time series 38-23 and are 11-2 against KWC since 2000. The meeting also will be the first between the two schools at the Physical Activities Center since KWC defeated USI 67-63 January 29, 2005.
