EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana women's basketball team used a 20-2 in the second half to defeat Christian Brothers University, 68-51, Sunday afternoon at the Physical Activities Center.

USI (2-1) shot 50 percent and out-rebounded the Lady Buccaneers 20-8 in the second half to turn a 35-33 halftime advantage into the 17-point victory.

Senior guard Katie Thiesenhusen (Muskego, Wisconsin), who missed USI's first two regular season games with a knee injury, scored 18 points to lead all scorers, while senior forward/center Sarah Buldtman (Metropolis, Indiana) recorded her first-career double-double at USI as she finished with 10 points and a career-high 12 rebounds.

The Screaming Eagles also got a great second-half effort out of senior forward Michelle King (Columbus, Indiana), who scored all nine of her points in the second period. King recorded six points in the 20-2 run that saw the score go from a 45-45 tie to a 65-47 USI advantage in a span of eight minutes.

Junior guard Akiya Alexander (Evanston, Illinois) also aided the Eagles' effort with 13 points and a game-high seven steals. Junior forward Jasmine Baines (Jeffersonville, Indiana) added 14 points and three steals, while senior guard Leah Stormont (Haubstadt, Indiana) dished out a game-high four assists.

CBU (1-2) got a team-high 12 points out of sophomore forward Crystal Shelton and five rebounds out of senior guard Mary Shea Hackett.

USI returns to action Thursday when it hosts Marygrove College at 6 p.m. at the PAC. The Eagles open GLVC play Saturday at 5:15 p.m. when arch-rival Kentucky Wesleyan College visits the PAC.
