Eagles looking to resume GLVC Tournament success

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana volleyball team is looking to resume its success in the GLVC Tournament when it plays Lewis University in the first round of the conference tournament Thursday at noon in Edwardsville, Illinois.

USI (17-10, 9-7 GLVC), which enters this season's league tournament as the sixth seed, has won two of the last six GLVC Tournaments (2002 and 2004) and appeared in five of the last six conference championship matches.

Despite the success, the Screaming Eagles must get by a tough Lewis squad that enters the conference tournament as the third seed. Lewis (22-5, 14-2 GLVC) defeated the Eagles in five games at the Physical Activities Center earlier this season and has won five straight matches entering post-season play.

If the Eagles can get past the Flyers in the first round, they will play the winner of the match between the second seed, No. 19 Rockhurst University, and the seventh seed, the University of Missouri-St. Louis, in the semifinals Friday at 5 p.m. The GLVC Championship is Saturday at 2 p.m.

The other half of the bracket features a first round match between fifth-seeded Northern Kentucky University and the fourth seed, the University of Indianapolis. The top seed and tournament host, No. 13 Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, takes on eighth-seeded Bellarmine University in the first round.
