EVANSVILLE, Ind.—The University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team scored twice in the first five minutes of the contest as it defeated Harris-Stowe State University, 4-0, in its season-finale Wednesday at Strassweg Field.
Senior midfielder/defender
Brian Shepherd (St. Louis, Missouri) started the scoring for the Eagles when he used a pass from freshman midfielder
Paul Hutchens (Libertyville, Illinois) in the fourth minute of the contest.
USI (3-12-2) added its second goal a minute later when senior forward
Eric Brewer (Granite City, Illinois) dribbled through and around the opposition to position himself for his second goal of the season.
Shepherd put the Eagles up, 3-0, in the 24th minute when his header, off a corner kick by junior forward
Michael Dugger (Hanson, Kentucky), found the back of the net.
Playing a man down for the final eight minutes of the first half and all of the second half, USI added a fourth goal in the final minute of the contest when Hutchens scored on a pass by freshman midfielder
Ed Thiebe (Martinsville, Indiana).
USI had a huge advantage in shots over Harris-Stowe State (4-10-0) as the Eagles out-shot the Hornets 20-8, including 12-2 in the opening period.
Sophomore keeper
Jake Bryan (Portage, Indiana) picked up the victory as he blanked the Hornets for nearly 81 minutes before giving way to freshman goalkeeper
Brad Cadden (Carmel, Indiana). Cadden led USI with a pair of saves.
