Eagles fall to Bellarmine

EVANSVILLE, Ind.—Bellarmine University's Phil Glaser had three assists as the Knights defeated the University of Southern Indiana men's soccer team, 3-0, Sunday afternoon at Strassweg Field.

The Knights (9-8-0, 6-7-0 GLVC) scored twice in the ladder third of the first half, using goals from Ryan Lederman in the 30th minute and Andrew Zarczynski in the 41st minute, to grab a 2-0 lead at the break. Ryan Coffey added Bellarmine's third goal in the 61st minute of the contest.

USI (2-12-2, 1-10-2 GLVC) picked up its attack in the final 20 minutes of the match, but could not get a shot passed Bellarmine goalkeeper Steve Slough, who finished with six saves. The Screaming Eagles had 15 shots, including eight on goal, while Bellarmine's defense recorded two team saves.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jake Bryan (Portage, Indiana) faced 18 shots, 12 on goal, and came away with nine saves in the loss.

Prior to the match, USI honored its three seniors—forward/midfielder Brett Palazzolo (St. Louis, Indiana), forward Eric Brewer (Granite City, Illinois), and midfielder Brian Shepherd (St. Louis, Illinois).

The three USI seniors play their final collegiate match Wednesday when the Eagles close the season by hosting Harris-Stowe State University at 4 p.m. at Strassweg Field.
